Annette's Steps Towards a Cure
Over 2,000 individuals will walk from Enumclaw to Seattle on August 10-12, 2001 in support of those courageously fighting breast cancer. And I've committed to walk right along with them. My primary motivation—to raise money for my grandmother, Mary Lou Coppernoll. She is a breast cancer survivor, but now is fighting the ovarian cancer that she contracted afterwards. Often I've felt helpless in the face of her struggles, so I'm excited to have the opportunity to do something positive. If I can't walk a mile in her shoes, I'll walk 60 in my own.
But her situation is just the catalyst for my actions. In learning more about the disease, I've been amazed to find how widespread its effects are. It seems like every day I hear of someone else who has contracted breast cancer, or has died from the disease. However, I've learned that with education and early detection and treatment, it *can* be conquered. In addition to helping my grandmother, I want to aid as many women as I can with the money I raise. No one should have to die from this disease. No one. I invite you to sign my guestbook with any thoughts you may have about my walk, breast cancer or other related issues. Just say hi, if you want! |
